Ian White has been the Chief Legal Officer and/or Company Secretary for both listed & major private companies. He has developed expertise in corporate governance and working with boards on effectiveness, enhancement and performance. While most of his work takes place in the corporate sector, he has also undertaken assignments in the not for profit and public sectors. As well as being a lawyer he has an MBA from Ashridge Business School; a coaching qualification and is a CEDR (Centre for Dispute Resolution) Accredited Mediator.
His main focus is FTSE and private companies but he has also undertaken reviews of mutuals, pension funds, high profile charities and public sector bodies. While he does not specialise in any one sector, he does have significant experience of evaluating financial services companies. His approach to Board Evaluation is to use the various Governance Codes and Guidance as a framework but with a focus on Board dynamics.
In 2016, as well as working as an independent consultant he spent six months as an internal governance consultant for a FTSE 100 International Bank working on board effectiveness and governance matters generally for the Holdings Board; in 2018, as well as undertaking a number of board reviews, he worked with a quasi-public sector body transferring to be a royal charter body – in particular supporting their need to have an effective Board and governance system in place. Ian also works with Boards and Executive teams to review their structure and leadership dynamics looking for ways in which these can be improved.
